High School Classes Fight for the Top Spot During Winterfest Week

The battle of what grade will dress the best for spirit week and put on the best performance for their lip sync is back and happening at Carlson. The time and effort the students put into learning these dances will soon be revealed to the whole school. Each time someone walks into school matching the day they were supposed to dress up is making their grade one step closer to taking home the Winterfest trophy.

Spirit Week

This year Winterfest Spirit Week went as follows:

Monday- Pajama Day

Tuesday- Blackout Day

Wednesday- Dress Like Your Favorite Teacher

Thursday- Hawaiian Day

Friday- Class Color Day

Spirit week went great! The start of the week was shocking because the senior class came to win this time. Each day was full of each class dressing up and showing their school spirit. but at the end of every day, the winner of that day’s spirit week was announced at the end of day announcements. The winner of the pajama day was the seniors. The winners for the blackout day were the seniors. The winner for Dress Like Your Favorite Teacher Day was the seniors. The winner for Hawaiian Day was the seniors. The winners for the class color day were the seniors. since the seniors took the win every day for Spirit Week and led them to the win of the Winterfest trophy.

Being Crowned

The one and only time the freshman gets to be the big deal is now. The form was sent out to the Freshman of Carlson to choose who they wanted to be on Snowball Prince and Princess Court. After the voting was done, the top 10 people, 5 boys and 5 girls were chosen to be on Snowball court to win. At the assembly, the Prince and Princess were crowned. The winners last year were the ones to crown this year’s winners.

This year’s court:

Skyler Warren

Danika Crews

Madalyn Mead

Lily Maynard

Boys-

Drew Biro

Collin Jaskula

Ethan Shank

Luke Howell

The winners for this year were…Collin Jaskula and Skylar Warren!

Assembly Time!

The students came rolling in to watch the assembly which included the band performing, the cheer team performing, winter sports being announced, lip sync, the crowning of The Prince and Princess, and the staff vs student basketball game.

The band played loud music and got everyone hyped up for the assembly.  Peyton Pitt sang the national anthem to get us started. After this, the cheer team took the mat to show the whole school what they had worked for this whole time. The cheer team is on their way to the States soon and has put in a lot of time and effort into nailing the performance. Each class went crazy and supported every stunt, flip, and cheer the team performed. Although this was a good way to start, there was still more to come.

Every assembly includes the teams for that season getting announced. When each sport was called, the students were to walk down and stand on the basketball court to be recognized. Once this was finished, it was time for each grade to show all of their hard work on their lip sync for this year. The freshmen started off the lip sync battle and killed it for their first year of being able to participate. Next up was the sophomores and they had a lot of participants in this year’s dance. This dance was very creative and you could tell that they put a lot of time and effort into it. After their performance, the Juniors took the court. The Juniors were fighting to win the lip sync for the second year in a row and blew away the crowd with their moves. They had a lot of participants and put a lot of time and effort into their dance and managed to not drop the people that they threw in the air while performing. Last but not least, the seniors took the court and began dancing trying to win so they could take home the Winterfest trophy. They performed their creative dance and even included Mrs. Schultz, the principal, in their performance. Although every grade had a great performance, the Juniors took the win for this year’s lip sync.

Student Opinions

Now let’s look at what the students think of this year’s spirit week.

What was your favorite spirit day and why?

Scott Wilkie- I like the Hawaiian because it reminds me of summer and I want it to be summer

What is your favorite thing about Winter Fest week?

Adam Zurawski- I like how it brings all of the students of Carlson together and helps us bond

What are your predictions on who will win, prince and princess?

Jakob Hedke-  Drew and Skylar

What is your favorite thing about Winter Fest week?

Anthony Shipley- Snowball because I’m ready to boogie and bust out some moves.

This week is always good for the students to come together and challenge each other. It is not based on who is better, it is based on who tried harder. This takes a whole class to be able to take the number one spot. Seeing each student work so hard and care about taking on the trophy makes Carlson what it is. Congratulations to the class of 2024 for winning a spirit week for the very first time!
